The Noodles with Cats
Xtra Ticket featuring Melvin Seals
A raucous show at Martini Ranch in old town Scottsdale from last spring (April 10, 2012) featured this fantastic threesome of Truckin’ –> Spoonful –> Positively 4th St.
The whole band is hitting their groove here and the fantastic audio and video feed (including the Melvin Cam) make this little show snippet a treat. Enjoy & we’ll see you at the next Xtra Ticket Show!
The Noodles 4-29-1999
The Noodles have been performing in the Tempe, AZ for so long, their origins are now steeped in mythology. After a show, be sure and ask John R. how it all got started!
This Sunday, June 23rd we will be celebrating Kim’s birthday, so be sure and wish him a Happy Birthday and offer to buy him a drink!
Elliott should be joining the band on keys after a couple week hiatus (it seems so long!)…. As we have a hard time remembering what he looks like, maybe the video below will help us.

See you Sunday at the Sail Inn everyone!
Magical Mythical May 1977
I had to do it, I just couldn’t resist. May 1977 was both magical and mythical to anyone who collected and traded these tapes years ago. When the Dead announced they were releasing 5 shows from that Spring… I had to pull the trigger. My box set arrived yesterday and number 805 of 15,000 has been in rotation ever since. I can’t get over how well these shows were mixed. These Betty Cantor era shows sound simply incredible. This box set cost a serious pile of pennies, but after receiving it… I’ve decided it is worth every penny.
My favorite so far in this incredibly put together box set is the Jack-A-Roe from Set 1 on May 15th 1977 at St. Louis Arena, St. Louis MO. The intro is simply sublime. I believe this is only the second time this tune was ever played (the first being two nights before in Chicago). Have a listen:
Here’s a little teaser “listening party” to get a sense of what else is in the box set:
“Wharf Rat” 5/11/77
“Mississippi Half-Step” 5/12/77
“Jack-A-Roe” 5/13/77
“Dancing In The Street” 5/15/77
“Terrapin Station” 5/17/77

Xtra Ticket Recreates 4-1-90
RECREATE: To impart fresh life to; refresh mentally or physically.
Xtra Ticket is firing on all cylinders and they certainly refreshed us all mentally! Their June 14th show at the Sail Inn in Tempe was an epic show recreation of the April 1st, 1990 Grateful Dead performance at the Omni in Atlanta; part of the Dead’s great Spring 1990 run with many of the tunes featured on the official release “Without a Net”.
Althea, China–> Rider, Women are Smarter and Sugar Magnolia were just some of the highlights, but you might as well just say the whole show!
A special thanks to Guy Ivester for recording the show!
Xtra Ticket at Last Exit Live
June 7th 2013
Sugaree… Sugaree… Sugaree! Maybe it’s me, but this is what I took away from this show. There is always one song. Possibly it was one too many Stella’s, but I was still able to ride my bike home, so I don’t think it was that. Dave’s hands were a blur in the second set Sugaree. My cohort Chris had to nudge me in the middle of this and ask, “is this for real?”. It was… Have a listen. A great show in the ’72 vein and it has me longing for more ’70’s material. A real sweet spot for me. How about a show from 1976 next? Enjoy everyone!
