The Noodles Final Sail Inn Performance

The Noodles with Moonalice

The Noodles Motion

Kevin MacConkey solo @ The Sail Inn

A great show at the Sail Inn by Kevin MacConkey tonight…  A Sugaree sandwich in the First Set…  Have a listen to a great Singer/Songwriter…

Cowboy Neal at the Wheel…

One of my all time favorites…  The Other One seems to require nimble fingers, timing and some heartfelt vocals.  The noodles pull it off in spades.  Still working on the mix a bit & I thought I would share with whoever pays attention to this blog rather than Facebook.

More to come… I promise!

The Noodles with Cats

A Asian golden cat loves to eat noodles (2)The Noodles ripped into the Holiday season with a stellar performance tonight…  The big first set highlight was “Cats Under The Stars”!

Second set of this killer show is coming soon…  Stay tuned 🙂

A Grateful Kickoff to Summer in Phoenix

060Throughout June, July & August, the days are just downright hot here in central Arizona. The nights normally offer some respite from the heat, but the shows played lately by both The Noodles and Xtra Ticket have been scorchers! Between the local Tempe hot spot The Sail Inn and the new downtown Phoenix venue Last Exit Live the guys have been tearing it up. Lucky for us Mitch has been recording and photographing the events and luckily enough for you, there are a few more coming up.  Here is the lowdown:

There will be a bit of an All Star Grateful Dead Review filling in for the Noodles in August…  More on that next time.

It is going to be a great (HOT) July here in Arizona!  See you at the next show!

Brokedown Palace–>China Cat–>Mind left Body Jam–> I know you Rider from 6-7-13 at Last Exit Live

Xtra Ticket featuring Melvin Seals

480596_10151281806301097_163593866_nA raucous show at Martini Ranch in old town Scottsdale from last spring (April 10, 2012) featured this fantastic threesome of Truckin’ –> Spoonful –> Positively 4th St.

The whole band is hitting their groove here and the fantastic audio and video feed (including the Melvin Cam) make this little show snippet a treat.  Enjoy & we’ll see you at the next Xtra Ticket Show!

The Noodles 4-29-1999

601816_10151382936706476_628110237_nThe Noodles have been performing in the Tempe, AZ for so long, their origins are now steeped in mythology. After a show, be sure and ask John R. how it all got started!

This Sunday, June 23rd we will be celebrating Kim’s birthday, so be sure and wish him a Happy Birthday and offer to buy him a drink!

Elliott should be joining the band on keys after a couple week hiatus (it seems so long!)….  As we have a hard time remembering what he looks like, maybe the video below will help us.

For those of you on Facebook, check out the event page: HERE

See you Sunday at the Sail Inn everyone!

Magical Mythical May 1977

I had to do it, I just couldn’t resist.  May 1977 was both magical and mythical to anyone who collected and traded these tapes years ago.  When the Dead announced they were releasing 5 shows from that Spring…  I had to pull the trigger.  My box set arrived yesterday and number 805 of 15,000 has been in rotation ever since.  I can’t get over how well these shows were mixed.  These Betty Cantor era shows sound simply incredible.  This box set cost a serious pile of pennies, but after receiving it…  I’ve decided it is worth every penny.

My favorite so far in this incredibly put together box set is the Jack-A-Roe from Set 1 on May 15th 1977 at St. Louis Arena, St. Louis MO. The intro is simply sublime. I believe this is only the second time this tune was ever played (the first being two nights before in Chicago). Have a listen:

Here’s a little teaser “listening party” to get a sense of what else is in the box set:

“Wharf Rat” 5/11/77
“Mississippi Half-Step” 5/12/77
“Jack-A-Roe” 5/13/77
“Dancing In The Street” 5/15/77
“Terrapin Station” 5/17/77
